1 When did you start playing poker?

Al Ardebili: I started playing poker when i was a kid. I’d play draw and other little games with my friends.

2) Then how’d you make the jump to high stakes hold’em?

Al Ardebili: I started playing online because I didn’t know where else to play hold’em. Then I saw no-limit on TV and decided that I needed to start playing that game.

3) What has been your biggest win so far?

Al Ardebili: The WPT Borgata $1.5 million gross.

4) How has your life changed since that win?

Al Ardebili: Not too much, I haven’t gone crazy. But, I’ve gotten a little more respect in the poker world and made a lot of friends who have had similar success in the poker world. You have to live life to the fullest and this poker scene and gambling is part of that. But you just need to have fun with it and not go too crazy.

5) You moved from New York to Vegas to be closer to the action, has it been difficult?

Al Ardebili: New york is the greatest city on earth and I’ll always miss New York when I’m away from it. But, it’s always nice to visit and live away from the cold.

6) What is your favorite part about being a professional poker player?

Al Ardebili: Semi-professional is the word i like to use. The greatest thing is the camaraderie and getting to know a lot of the players out there. Most are friends off the table. The circle of friends is great, they are a bunch of good people.

7) What else do you like to gamble on?

Al Ardebili: I love craps. I love blackjack. But those are bad vices. Don’t do that at home! Stay in school! As long as you keep that under control and concentrate on poker it can be a fun diversion.

8) Who would you least like to see with you at a major final table.

Al Ardebili: There are a lot of great players out there. I’d have to say the toughest guy I’ve played with is Layne Flack. I respect his game a lot. He is very unpredictable and very tough to put on a hand.

9) What’s the strangest thing that you’ve seen at the poker table?

Al Ardebili: A guy dropped dead at my table one time at Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. It was his turn to act and he just slumped over in his chair. EMS laid him out on the table and tried to revive him, but I heard later that he passed away. The worst part of it was someone gave his wife his remaining chips as if that was the most important thing at the time.

10) What would you be doing now if you weren’t playing poker?

Al Ardebili: Before this I was trading on Wall Street for a couple of big banks, so probably some variation of that. I still trade stocks and futures, it’s kinda the same game as poker. Risks and rewards. They are all just play chips once you buy in!
