A royal flush occurs when all 5 cards are of the same suit, ten through ace. It is both straight and a flush and is the highest straight and highest flush possible (10 - A).

A straight flush occurs whwn all 5 cards are the same suit and in a row. Remember that Aces can be in both high and low straights (10-A or A-5).

A four of a kind occurs when you have 4 cards of the same rank.

A full house is 3 of one number and pair of another. To determine which full house is the highest look at the number that each full house has 3 of. The one that is larger wins. If the set of 3 is the same in both full houses then compare the pairs.

A flush occurs when you have five of the same suit. To determine which flush wins if there are more then one on the table, the person with the highest card in their flush wins. If the high card is the same then it keeps going to the next highest card until there is a winner (or a split pot occurs if the flushes are the same).

A straight occurs when a player has five cards in a row. Remember that an Ace can be used in a high and low straight. The straight containing the highest card is the one that wins.

Three of a kind is when you have 3 cards of the same number.

Two pair is when you have two different pairs in your hand. If multiple people hold two pair the winner is the one with the highest pair. If players have the same two pair then the left over high card determines the winner.

Pair is when you have two of the same cards in your hand. When more than one player has the same pair, the winner is the one with the highest card not involved in the pair.

High card is when all of your cards are different and you don't have a straight or flush. If none of the players has a pair or better the winner is the one with the highest card in their hand. If the high cards are the same then it keeps going to the next highest card until someone wins or there is a split pot.
