Cory Carroll, 2007 Caesars Palace WSOP Circuit Champion


Cory Carroll from Nova Scotia, Canada won the latest Circuit event at Caesar’s Palace. He outlasted 335 other players to win $506K and a seat into the WSOP main event. He beat Justin Pechie heads up to win.

The Buzz

The tournament area was filled with media and fans who flocked to the rail to catch the final table. They wanted to see who would take down a half of a million dollars and be the latest WSOP Circuit champion.

The Back Story

The two last remaining big-named pros left in the event, Chad Brown and David “The Dragon” Pham, both busted out early. Chad Brown went out in 9th place when his pocket 8s lost to Vasile Buboi’s 9-9. Although Brown flopped an 8, Buboi turned a set when a 9 fell. Brown won $32,592 for 9th place. The Dragon as crippled by Eric Davis who flopped a set of Jacks. With just 37K remaining, The Dragon busted out on the next hand.

The Sight of the Day

Two Roman centurions along with Cleopatra and Julius Caesar himself came out for the money presentation. They dumped 506K in cash on the final table.

Online Players Update

Shaniac called Cory Carroll, “the best player you never heard of.” Playing under the screen name of UGOTPZD, Carroll has a few five figure scores after final tabling several online tournaments.

Hand of the Day

Carroll crippled Pechie on their 14th hand of heads up play. The two were involved in a raising match pre-flop and got it all in. Pechie held Kd-Jh and Carroll showed 9d-9s. It was a race and Carroll’s pocket nines held up. Pechie was down to around 100K and busted out on the next hand.
