New law forces tribute bands to be called tribute bands
Last week, Gov. Jim Gibbons signed a law to force bands performing in Las Vegas to be called tribute acts if they don’t include any members from the original band.
A band found without “tribute” or “salute” in their title can now be fined for deceptive trading practice.
We haven’t been to Sahara in some time, but we remember seeing (and hearing) The Drifters, yet somehow without any of the original members. Only one — Bill Pinkney — is still alive.
Sonny Turner of The Platters, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, and Jon Bauman (Bowzer) of Sha Na Na have been the most vocal, lobbying lawmakers and suing bands using the name of their bands.
