I havent updated in a while because nothing has really happened since the wsop FT (I made a bellagio $1k FT and went out 9th for a meaningless profit)...
Its been rough lately, Ive been running really horrible ever since the series started. I've gotten to the final 18 and below about 12 or 13 times both online and live in the past month and I haven't won a single tourney. I seriously havent seen a pair bigger than 10's in ANY of the final 2 tables, I've had AK and AQ a couple times but I've been seriously card dead the final 2 tables every time I make it that deep. I believe (and I may be wrong), that in these type of tourneys (online type, where avg stack is maybe 12 or 15 bb's by the final 12) you need cards from 18 players down to 11, then you need a stack to push people around when its the bubble for the FT, and then you need cards again once you make the FT. Basically, I dont think you can get from final 18 to HU without good starting hands or without winning a big race or two, and thats exactly what I've been missing.
I drove back to Texas last week and stayed at my house for 4 days, I played all the big online tourneys while I was there and it was extremely hard to get back into online tourneys. After playing live $1,000 buy in tourneys with 300 entries and 130k first prize, playing an online $150 tourneys with 600 people and an $18k first prize seems pretty weak. Dont get me wrong, $18k would be pretty awesome for me right now, but its just hard to take the tourney seriously after I already got a taste of the big time. I'm pretty sure the wcoop will get me motivated to play online again.
Right now I'm in L.A. for the week, I came to play a couple of the prelim tourneys for the Legends WPT event, I'll also play 2 sat's to try to qualify into the main event. Which brings me to my next dilema, Ive been thinking on what would be the best way to aproach the tourney circuit. I plan on setting a side a decent chunk of my monthly winnings so that I can travel to a live event once every month or every two months.. what I havent really figured out yet is wether I should be playing 3 $1k-$1.5k prelim events and 2 or 3 $1k sattelites to the ME and paying for 1 week's hotel or more, for a total of about 6 or $7,000? OR should I just take 10k and fly out the day before the main event and just buy in straight? On one hand I can play 3 or 4 prelim tourneys with good prize pools and try to qualify for the main event all for under $10k, and on the other hand I can end up traveling for 7 or 10 days out of the month and not even being able to play the big event. I guess I'll figure it all out in the next month or so, these circuit tourneys can really drain the roll so I really need to get organized and stop being so random all the time.
Anyway, I went kind of off topic, today I played the $1k limit holdem event, 120 people entered first payed almost $50k (see the difference between live and online?). Ugh, limit tourneys are the devil. I was up to a bit above avg stack with like 9500 with 40-42 players left, it payed 18 spots and the players were SOOO terrible that I really felt I had a good shot at the FT. I get AA on the button and 3 bet the CO's raise, bb calls, co raiser calls, flop comes 427r bb (uber aggro super donk) leads, CO (calling station donk) calls, I raise, bb 3 bets, CO calls, I cap, turn 8 bb checks, co checks, I bet, both call...river 3 dude bets other guy raises I fold, BB shows 43, CO shows 33 GG a big chunk of my stack.
Later on the CO limp, SB completes and I check the bb with 10 6, the flop comes 10 6 Q sb checks I bet, CO folds, sb calls, turn is a K and the sb leads out 600 (blinds 150/300) I raise and he goes all in for 400 more, I call and he flips over 89o, river J gg most of my stack.
I almost forgot this other hand, that happened somewhere between the 10/6 and the time where I got knocked out, (I had built my stack back up a bit when I got all in w/ AQ on a 558 flop and I won) I raise A10 to 600 bb calls, flop is 223 two spades, BB checks I bet 300 he calls, turn is a Qh dude leads 600 I raise because by now Im sure he's drawing to the spades or has something like 45 or 44 he thinks for a bit and calls, river is a red 5 and he checks, I check cuz I put him on a flush draw and I thought I had the best hand, he flips over A4,, great.. ....this just gives you an example of how terrible these guys are at limit holdem.
A little later I manage to get my last 1500 in with KK vs two people preflop, flop comes A high of course and A10 knocks me out. I wasnt pissed when I left though, I played great and only really made 3 or 4 small mistakes (like missing value bet on the river). It still sucks that I ran like shit, if I win the 3 suckout pots I get a big ass stack and I coulda probably made the FT considering the field was so weak, the only known players left were Joe Seebock and randy holland... (btw, Barry Greenstien played the event, which everyone thought was pretty wierd, maybe he was just bored or something.)
Anyway, I just wrote this to vent about how shitty cards have been lately, and how difficult its been for me to take online tourneys seriously after playing the series. Tomorrow I playt the 1500 event at the Bike, and on friday I play the 1k sat's to the Main event.
I'm going to sleep now, hopefully I can get a big score tomorrow and just freeroll into the 10k ;-). |
