First of all, Im sorry I havent been able to update on a daily basis. I am honestly dead by now, its been all poker for me this week and I am exhausted. Ill try to make up for the lack of updates in this blog and Ill also try to update more often.
So Ive played another two tournaments this week, the $1k nlhe and the $2k PLH events on Monday and Tuesday.
We got to the Rio at about 11 am on Monday ready to play the 1k event. We stood in line for about 15 minutes and when we finally got to the window they told us wed be the 500th alternates for the event, what we figured this meant was that wed only get 1500 in starting chips but we wouldnt be able to get in until around the 100/200 level which would wouldnt be worth it at all. We decided to go have some breakfast, about an hour later we went back to the tourney room so that we could register for the $2,000 PLH event. Once we registered for that Justin decided to ask if we could still register for the 1k event and the lady said yes. It was only the 25/50 level and she said it wouldnt take more than 40 minutes for us to get our seats, so out of compulsion we ended up buying in. We figured out that at 50/100 all we had to do was double up once and wed be in good shape.
We finally got our seats and it was about 10 minutes before the end of the 25/50 period, I decided that I would play every hand that level so that I can get a monster and double through someone so I played 5 hands straight and only lost $100 of my stack. This was great because it gave me a loose image and I event got to showdown 83s in one hand. -Btw to my direct left was Bobby Bellande the excellent laydown dude from ESPN, and two to my right was this young guy who I hear is a sick 50/100 nl player on full tilt, I think he plays under the name Chrisqueen.- By the time 50/100 level started I decided to tighten up a little but I still had a few chips to limp in with I somehow chipped up to about 2k when the following hand came up:
UTG limps, MP limps, I limp from the hijack with 7s8s, the button limps, sb completes, and bb checks (BB shoulda pushed a lot of hands in this spot imo). The flop comes AsKs10 and people QUICKLY check around to me, I decide to take a stab for 400 and the button insta-jams for 700 more, it folds to me and once I figure my odds I give him a gamble callto my surprise the dude flips over Q3 no spade and now I love my spot, the turn is a 6x which now gives me gutshot outs and I river an 8 for a pair. So now Im at about $3,600 and I feel Im in great shape. I basically decided to wait for a hand during the rest of the 50/100 level, but that monster never came (although I did have QQ vs. a shortstacks A4 and lost).
At the 100/200 level I feel I pretty much dominated my table, Bellande played hooorribly and busted so I felt I could push the blinds around a bit more. I went up to about 4.8 or 5k but then went back down to about 3.5k when I made it 600 UTG with AQ and got called the flop came K39 and I bet 800 and got called, I basically gave up after that and I lost the hand. So now Im at about 3,300 and Im UTG+1 with AA, I make it 500 and it folds to the bb, just as I thought I wasnt getting any actionBOOM.. All in, and of course I insta-call and he flips over 66 flop comes 943 turn 6 and its GG 3k of my stackwhen the turn card hit I didnt even blink, Ive been getting sucked out on so much lately that Im used to it by now, I was actually really happy with the way I played and how I went out..if I win that pot Im at about 6600 when the antes kick in and I can REALLY build a stack there.
I played a $500 sat that day and again got screwed when a dude limps and I make it 300 out of my 2k stack with QJ, the flop comes 10,9,5r he checks I check, turn Q he bets 400 and I make it 1200 he goes all in for 500 more and I call he shows Q9 and miss my million outs again..
Yesterday (Tuesday) I headed out to the Rio with a new mentality I HAVE ENDED MY COLD STREAK! I WILL NOT GET COOLERED AND I WILL CATCH THE CARDS I NEED! within my first 3 hands I get KK with 3 limpers, I make it 125 and everyone foldsvery next hand I get 64s on the button and utg raises, MP calls and I call, flop comes A46 utg bets 200 other guy calls and I make it 650, utg calls and MP folds, of course an A turns and Im in bad shape he checks I check river is a 4 he bets I fold and he shows AJ. By now Im left with about 1200 in chips and 2 hands after that I get Ac10c in the Hijack, the guy to my right who had been opening 3 out of the first 5 hands raises to 100 I call and button calls, the flop is 10s9s 8c, the guy bets 200 and I make it 600 to make it look to him like Im committing myself but I want to get some value out of the hand (rather than just shoving). The button then shoves in for the rest and the raiser folds.. ughhh. Now its 600 to me and Im getting about 3 to 1 for my callhow sick is that? I figure theres NO way Im good but there is a slight chance that hes got something like KsJs or AsJs and hands of that sort, in which case even though Im not really a favorite the call is by far worth itI counted the pot and thought for about a minute and a half total and this guy calls the clock on me! The guy to my immediate right takes his headphones off and says Are you serious? What the hell are you calling the clock for? I say the same thing and he says I gave him like 5 minutes to think already thats enough by now Im steaming and now I have the floor telling me I have 30 seconds and I just muck because I figure I can still double up and have enough playing chips to build a stack where as if I call Im 90% sure Im drawing dead and 10% sure he has a monster draw.. Right when I muck I just go off on the guy (by this time Mimi Tran is just sitting down at my table and staring at me like Im the type of idiot kid thats always talking shit) about how much of an asshole he was. I was steaming but I dont feel It affected my play at all I got AJ and made it 100 4 people called behind and the flop came K98 so I check foldedI got hit by blinds for 2 orbits without playing a hand and was down to about 350 or 400, it folds to me in the CO and I make it 100 with Ks10s which is almost like pushing all in but it seems stronger imosb (the asshole) shoves and I call getting 2 to 1 he has JJ and I miss. As Im getting up from my seat he apologizes and said he had QdJd I blow him off and leave. As Im leaving I see Justin (looshle) is getting up from his table and it turns out he busted on the same hand that I did which I thought was pretty funny.
I came home and played the $150 on stars and the $11r I felt like for the first time In 2 months I ran really well in these and I final tabled the $150 and cashed the $11r (where I had $700 with 100/200 blinds).. I actually liked how I played the whole tourney except for the final 2 tables, on the bubble I was in a terrible spot with the chiplead to my left and not enough chips to push anyone around but more than enough chips to do some damage at the FT, so rather than play aggro I just played passive and waited to FT. At the final table I went completely card dead and I was just getting my blinds owned by the rest of the table I finally ran into AA when I tried to steal with J10 and it was 6th place for me and only like $3500 profitI wish I couldve won that because it would have completely taken off all of the pressure that I have right now at the series oh well, I guess this means Im going to have to win something at the wsop.
==========================================================================
Today is my resting day and I plan on taking it completely off of poker. Tomorrow I play the $2,500 short handed event. THIS IS MY GAME I have played 3 short handed tourneys in my life and I have gotten heads up in all of them (I played one short handed sattelite, but only like 25 people and Im not counting that). Aside from that, I play 30/60 shorthanded on a regular basis and I feel I have a great understanding of the value of the cards in 6 handed games I think that knowing the value of a hand in a SH game is probably the most important part to it, the novice player might be waiting to hit sets while I know that bottom pair or A high can definitely be a showdown hand in certain situations Who knows, I might bust the first hour again, but I can guarantee that I will play very well in this tourney and if the cards fall my way for once in this series I feel I have a good shot at going deep.
Thats it for me today. Hopefully Ill have a good just got through day 1 thread tomorrow.
