Halfway Home at the WSOP

A Hell(muth) of a series

Half of the 2007 World Series of Poker is in the books and it has been a Hellmuth of a series so far.  The Poker Brat grabbed headlines and champagne bottles after winning his record breaking 11th bracelet, making 3 final tables, and passing TJ Cloutier for most all time WSOP cashes with 60.  Hellmuth broke a three way tie with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson for most WSOP bracelets by winning his eleventh in Event #15, a $1,500 NL hold’em event .

Chan and Brunson appeared after the tournament at an impromptu press conference to congratulate Hellmuth on his accomplishment.  When not being interrupted by Hellmuth, Brunson made sure to point out that all of Hellmuth’s wins have been in Hold’em tournaments, while he and Chan won bracelets in many different games.  The slight jab didn’t seem to bother Phil, who gloated that he helped Brunson win $400,000 from a prop bet with an unnamed party.  The bet was that Hellmuth would win his 11th bracelet in 2007 giving Doyle ‘Texas Dolly’ Brunson some consolation for losing his share of the record.
