Hidden from view inside the Bluff Cryptoteria, the final table of the $2000 Pot Limit Hold’em Event #37 crowned a winner after a couple of hours of heads up play between Greg Hopkins and Jason Newburger. The two had been trading chips and the lead most of the evening until the end finally arrived. Both had demonstrated a cautious playing style that saw some big laydowns before Newburger raised the pot with a Ks,Qs and was reraised by Hopkins’ pocket Jacks. Without hesitation Newburger moved all in and was called by Hopkins. The flop, 9,10,2o, offered no help and were all red so no flush draw. Newburger’s only hope was a Jack for a gut shot straight, or a King or Queen for a bigger pair. The turn was another 10 and the river was a 4. Hopkins was the 2007 WSOP $2K Pot Limit Hold’em Champion.
Hopkins received $269,707, the Corum watch and the WSOP Brecelet while Newburger settled for $165,707. Congratualtions to Greg Hopkins, the 2007 WSOP $2000 Pot Limit Hold’em Champion.
