Bette Midler to take over for Celine Dion in 2008

Caesars Palace has announced Bette Midler as Celine Dion’s successor when Dion ends her lucrative 5-year contract performing to sold-out houses and grossing some $500 million.

In a two-year contract, Midler will perform 100 shows a year, alternating with Elton John who will continue his 50 shows per year. This is 60 shows less than Dion, leaving speculation that Caesars will seek one more entertainer such as Cher.

Dion continues through Dec. 15, and the theater will then be redone to suit Midler’s show, which will begin Feb. 20, 2008.

Tickets, priced comparably to Dion, will be available for purchase at the end of today via Ticketmaster or at 1-877-7BETTEM.
