The longest heads-up match to date at the 2007 WSOP played deep into the night before a champion was crowned in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha w/rebuys Event #33. Alan Smurfit and Qushqar Morad traded chips throughout the marathon event often resulting in both players having just enough checks to make the next antes and blinds; then, the short stack would climb out of the hole and continue. The end finally came when Alan Smurfit put Qushqar Morad all-in and the flop offered no help for Morad to give Smurfit the win. Alan Smurfit goes home with a Corum watch, the WSOP bracelet and $464,867 in cash. Qushqar Morad walks away with second place and $279,595.
In other Friday final table action at the 2007 WSOP Alexander Borteh collected $225,483, the Corum watch and a WSOP gold bracelet after he defeated Brand Wong in event #34, $3000 Limit Hold’em. Wong picked up $135,615 for second place.
Congratulations to the 2007 WSOP’s latest bracelet winners, Alan Smurfit and Alexander Borteh.
