The Ongoing Saga of Ellix Powers part 20

After Ellix had left the greater las Vegas area, I got a call from him a few days later. He told me he had accidentally left his bag at the bus station and wanted to see if I could go by and grab it. I didn’t mind doing so, and when I got to the bus station, I described the bag to the porter and had him go back to look. When he came out empty-handed, I called Ellix and had him talk to the porter as he tried to locate the missing bag. The effort was fruitless, but Ellix thanked me for it. Reasonably, it was his strategy of not checking the bag so he could keep it in their storage which failed him in the end.

I periodically heard from Ellix over the next few weeks, just to say he was on a train headed to a different part of California, or to make sure if there were people staying at my place I was making them pay a proper amount for the service. As of about three weeks ago, the calls stopped coming and I got so busy with preparations for my trip back east that I didn’t try to call him either. As I was waiting for my delayed plane, I decided to look him up but the phone rang straight to voicemail. I left him a message with my number figuring correctly that he had lost his phone. I didn’t get a call back until today, but I was real excited to hear from him.

He told me he had been trying to call for like 2 weeks and even went so far as to berate the man at “the phone company” trying to get him to find my number. When he found out it was a 215 Philly area code he realized he may have been a little hard on the man at the phone company, because he was sure I was a local 702 in Vegas. Regardless, we got a chance to catch up and I asked him how the Bicycle tournament had been going. He responded “Its been going real well, except for when I got banned from the casino for 10 days”. I obviously asked him to elaborate, and he said “Yeah, it was stupid, I was running my mouth and they asked me to stop, but I kept running my mouth.” He still is getting to play some events being backed by Panther Poker.com, but he has been running kind of cold. He does however have a student who is getting private lessons from him and has cashed in three of the events so far. I told him I was thinking of coming out to the bicycle for a weekend with a few friends and he said there was definitely sweet action to be had.

Then he brought up the question of whether I was telling stories about him on the internet. I was thinking this may come up eventually, but definitely didn’t think it would happen so soon. Apparently, the guy from Panther Poker found it, probably being told that his site was mentioned. He told Ellix about it, and I wasn’t sure what exactly was mentioned so I tried to handle it with kid gloves. I let him know that I was in fact telling stories about him and asked him if he had read them. He had not, and they guy hadn’t said anything bad, so I decided to just give him the web address and let him make his own decisions. I’m not sure whether he will see my characterization thus far as insulting or inspiring, but I am pretty sure I will be threatened with possible legal action either way.
