Bellagio’s Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic has completed the first event, $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em, crowned the first champion and paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars, just five dollars short of $857,000, to be exact. The first event was won by Motoyuki Mabuchi when he eliminated Champie Douglas in second place.

Mabuchi collected $274,950, a custom gold bracelet and a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship event. Douglas received $149,670 for second and Allen Baker took third for $78,990. Noted poker professional and author of numerous books, David Slansky, made the final table and went out sixth taking $23,280. A total of 589 players begin the event on Saturday.

Sunday’s event #2, $2,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em, attracted 288 players vying for a piece of the $558,720 prize pool with $206,795 going to the winner. The top 27 finishers will receive some of the cash. At the evening dinner break 34 players remained. Some familiar faces were seen in the mix. The Bellagio Resort has always been a favorite poker tournament stop for players. Held in the Fontana Room where players enjoy a close-up view of the Bellagio’s famous dancing fountains. Satellites for the Five Star are scheduled daily at the Mirage Resort poker room is hosting Super-Satellites for the Bellagio’s Fifth Annual 5 Star World Poker Classic.
