How to play Texas Hold'em

First, one player is designated the dealer and gets a chip called “the button” to indicate this dealer status. This person has the advantage of betting last in every round.

The person to the left of the button puts in the small blind. The small blind is a designated amount of chips that usually go up at predetermined increments (either time or # of hands). The person to the left of the small blind puts in the big blind which is usually double the small blind.

Then everyone gets two cards dealt face down to them.

Once everyone has their two cards there is a round of betting beginning with the person to the left of the big blind.

At this point each player has the option to check (no bet) if no one else has bet in front of them, call a bet in front of them, raise with a larger bet, or fold.

Then three community cards are dealt face up which is called the flop.

Then there is another round of betting for everyone who is still in the hand.

Then another community card is dealt face up which is called the turn or 4th street.

Then there is another round of betting.

Then the final community card is dealt face up which is called the river or 5th street.

Then there is the final round of betting and the person that wins is the one that has the best 5 card hand built from any combination of the community cards and the 2 cards dealt to them.

After each hand the button and the blinds rotate one space to the left and a new hand is dealt
